GM declined to put in a fix for the switch that would have cost them 57 cents for the part, but they made sure to quickly hire a crisis management consultant to deal with the fallout. By all means, make sure to protect your self from fallout over your failure to fix a deadly problem. I hope the families of these 13 people get millions and millions.

They also didn’t disclose the issue when they were getting their bailout from the government. Hope the media hammers GM like they did Toyota.

Of course, prior to the bailout, they were broke and couldn’t afford to fix anything. What is their excuse for producing the Volt after they got the bailout money?

It was not the cost of the switch that prevented them from issuing a fix to the problem. By fixing the switch, they were admitting to fault for a poorly designed and built product which would have led to the inevitable lawsuits. It fascinates me that these corporations never learn that the fix and defense is always less costly than the Crisis Management afterwards. The cost was at least 13 lives.
