There is no doubt that texting while driving is out of control. Perhaps if the fines and penalties were as severe as for drunk driving, it might get the attention of all drivers. Of course, it seems that at least in California the Highway Patrol has all but given up on speeding, ineligible vehicles in HOV or car pool lanes, trucks and trailer towing vehicle speed et cetera. It’s not a little scary to be traveling at 70 mph (over the speed limit on most freeways) and be passed up by a car pulling a boat.

Good one Mike. I have been lobbying in my state about passing a texting ban and our state agents association is pushing it as well. Sometimes politicians are slow to wake up. Perhaps the lawyer infestation making up the legislature doesn’t want it as well since many make their living off of claims these texting fools have.

Ron, has your brain shrunk to the size of Boogers? I can only surmise you are a texter while driving advocate. You can handle it, right just like drinkers or weed smokers. This does happen to be a public safety issue. These distracted texters are having accidents killing and maiming people. How cavalier of you to dismiss this issue. When you have an accident while texting, please make it a tree or a lamp post instead of an innocent victim in another car.

You see this as a public safety issue, but the EPA sees the regulations they put in place for public safety also. You are either for regulations in the name of public safety or you are not. Pick a side.

Yes Ron, we have seen what the EPA has done on the guise of Public Safety. They are easily the worst of the federal agencies and have killed jobs all over the country with their overbearing regulations. How do you like the latest brutal poll out that this administration is under water on every major issue facing America by double digits. If you want to see it, go on Townhall.com. It is very depressing for the country. How could you have possibly voted for this guy twice?

Do I agree with all of the regulations that the EPA has out in place, no. But they do it for the same reason you want to pass a ban on texting while driving, public safety. What is more important to you, public safety or freedom, liberty and profits?

Maybe you should move to NY, we already have the ban in place.

Ron, allow me to quote one of the most brilliant economists who has ever lived. He is not John Maynard Keynes.

Government has three primary functions. It should provide for military defense of the nation. It should enforce contracts between individuals. It should protect citizens from crimes against themselves or their property. When government– in pursuit of good intentions tries to rearrange the economy, legislate morality, or help special interests, the costs are inefficiency, lack of motivation, and loss of freedom. Government should be a referee, not an active player.

I think it is blatantly clear that you are the one that needs help and quite possibly the one that needs to lay off the peyote. This should enable you to lose the paranoia. Again, I would have no reason to post something under someone’s “moniker” and I am comfortable posting anything under my own name. You may want to reconsider your own worth and input to this blog. After all, you are the one that has misused the rating feature to censor other posters you could easily have acquired new foes. Maybe we should have Texican Pastor/Insurance Tsar of Texico relinquish your licenses and reconsider the colony insurance laws down there. But then again it is Texico, we would have a better chance of executing you for having a low IQ score.

By the way, the 90’s and early 2000’s were the precursor to what we have now with a giant monolithic, unresponsive, inefficient government thinking they know best for America and are taxing us to death to impose their will. Keynes was thoroughly discounted on his spending the way to prosperity. Apparently, you also approve of his failed philosophy. How about that $7 Trillion debt in the past 6 years? Freedom to pursue the American Dream is one of the bedrock ideas of this country. Everyone that is free to pursue their dreams will find equality. I know many African Americans who are quite successful because they pursued an education and didn’t let race hold them back. The most famous is Dr. Ben Carson raised in the worst part of Detroit with a mother who couldn’t even read. She did instill values in him and saw to it he pursued an education and he ended up being a world renowned neurosurgeon.

Agent – I’ve been drinking, smoking pot and driving since I was old enough to get my license and I’ve only killed a couple of people. But they were liberals, so I didn’t think you’d mind.

Agent, that was neither coherent nor persuasive.

For the record, like the EPA, I believe that texting while driving laws are a good thing. Because that is what regulations do, they shift externalities away from being born by the public at large.

You, on the other hand, appear to only like regulations aimed at pot smokers and texting, but regulations prohibiting lead in toys or fracking are destroying America.

That, “Agent,” is being a hypocrit. Its also stupid, but hopefully you’re handsome so it wont matter.

Stan, your stupidity and steadfast loyalty to the left is pretty amazing. I don’t think I ever advocated allowing lead in toys made in China. If I had my way, the boats would be turned back to China since harm is being done to our kids. Fracking can be and is done safely and is contributing to our independence from foreign oil and gas. We are creating jobs with Oil & Gas when the rest of the country is tanking. We should be exporting LPG to Europe since they are a ready market and we could stop Putin in his tracks if he didn’t have those contracts. That is where we can get him, not saying you will be more flexible in your second term and letting him run over you at every turn.

Agent, what do you think of Austin? Great Texas city, or the greatest Texas city?

          Opie,
Just so you know, I sent an email to TDI, specifically to Chris Davis’ office. I was informed after his inaugural square dance that he will look into the potential fraud of you being an insurance agent and numerous complaints from your clients having to hold hands and pray that claims would go away rather than file them and risk hurting your loss ratios. If he has time, he is also going to contact INS regarding a certain “souvenir” from the Philippines. Word is there is another house about to fall in a lake that he has to investigate. It doesn’t look good either way.

As a matter of fact, I think the word “agent” is forever tainted. The insurance industry and others should reconsider the term “agent” after what he’s done to it. Maybe Agent can think of a new name. Like “Insurance Dufus” or something like that. Are you a “Licensed Insurance Opie”? Let’s say you.

Many people want the government to protect the consumer. A much more urgent problem is to protect the consumer from the government.
      Milton Friedman

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the Free Market is a lack of belief in freedom itself. Milton Friedman

Ron, I am merely quoting a very brilliant economist since you don’t believe anything I say that is Conservative. I am sorry it offends you hearing these truths. I will keep doing it since there are many others. It is funny that Libby and Booger are bouncing off the walls and are into the name calling already.

“There is one and only one social responsibility of business to use it’s resources and engage in activities designed to increase it’s profits so long as it stays within the rules of the game, which is to say, engages in open and free competition without deception or fraud”. Agent,

Friedman does not offend me because I agree with him on most points. Does it bother you that I agree with Friedman?

I was just pointing out your hypocrisy of criticizing me for using other sources to form my opinion, yet you are doing the exact same thing. That is all.

Until to rise above the name calling, as I have, please refrain from criticizing others for name calling. Since you are likely the oldest on this blog, be the adult.

Agent – any “brilliant” economist knows you can not use one theory for every situation. You must use a variety of methods specially tailored to the state of the economy at the time. And yes, that can include some Kynesian methods as well.

You are so one-dimensional as to not be “brilliant” at anything. It’s the true sign of a dullard.

You are famous for wanting sources Ron. I keep giving them to you and now you are mad that I am providing them. By the way, have you ever started a conversation and rendered an opinion on this forum or are you just trolling to find one of my comments so you can insult me? From your posts, I see nothing intelligent coming from you on the economy, politics or any other subject. I have noticed you have had your head handed to you by Bob on several occasions.
