does Trinity have a billion of liability protection? do they have a billion of liquid assets? are they even worth close to a billion?
I doubt all of the above. If the judgement stands, they are out of business and the plaintiffs hold a paper that says a billion dollars on it.
no idea about their insurance, but do have ~$1.5B in current assets with 400M in cash. Annual net income in range of $250-300M. Would not put them out of business, but would significantly hurt future plans. Not to mention all the negative publicity, and leaders that will undoubtedly be fired or leave will impact their business for years to come.
So is Joshua Harman really a hero or someone trying to make a buck? The article doesn’t state if he went to his employer telling them the product was inferior and people were getting hurt. It makes it sound like he would sneak around, watching people get hurt, until he made a big enough case to sue for his lottery ticket. I hope that’s not the case, but it sure sounds like it. So how many lives did this guy have to make sure died before he could get his money. Blood money if that’s the case.
Baxtor, read the section titled Whistle-Blower and the two paragraphs above it. Although it sounds like he worked in the industry, it sounds like Harmen did not work for Trinity. Also, it seems that he went around researching accidents and did not wait for them to happen, per se. Sounds like he was trying to build a case and get people to actually listen to him. But hey, this is just one article and who knows exactly what details may have been left out.
