A $10,000 grant from Travelers/Citigroup Foundation will allow New Orleans area students in 12 financial services academies to take three field trips to local insurance agencies.
The grant will also fund one classroom site for InVEST, a business-education partnership aimed at preparing high school and community college students for careers in the insurance industry.
With the grant, InVEST students and students participating in other financial services academies, will tour insurance agencies, participate in an automobile insurance simulation run by other high school students, and visit the Louisiana State Insurance Commission in Baton Rouge. Grant funds also will be used to match money raised by financial services academies for a trip to a financial services center in New York.
The national InVEST program is a 501(c)(3) and is solely supported through contributions. Funding received by InVEST at the national level helps to sustain more than 235 active InVEST classrooms across the country and generates the capital necessary to support program development, operational costs and classroom support.
Participation in InVEST classrooms by local agents and carrier representatives supplemented by state and regional grants also enhances the opportunity to participate in and benefit from this unique insurance education initiative at the local level.
