Mercury Insurance Group has opened its Western Regional Headquarters in Oklahoma City, taking a five-year lease on more than 40,000 square feet of office space in what will now be known as the Mercury Insurance building at 7301 Northwest Expressway.
California-based Mercury has long maintained facilities in Oklahoma and currently employs about 215 people here, according to Richard McCathron, vice president Western Region of Mercury General Corporation (NYSE-MCY), parent company of Mercury Insurance Group.
“Oklahoma City is a tremendous community with a dynamic business environment. We look forward to continued growth and expanded employment activities here,” said McCathron, who is responsible for all aspects of Mercury’s operations in states west of the Mississippi River, aside from California – Mercury’s headquarters since its founding in 1961.
Supporting its underwriting, claims, marketing and administration duties from its Oklahoma City offices, Mercury sells its insurance policies in 12 states through a network of more than 3,500 independent brokers and agents. Mercury operates primarily as a personal automobile insurer and in some states also provides some additional personal and commercial insurance products.
