Swett & Crawford appointed Bonnie DeVries as a transportation underwriter, located in the Dallas office. DeVries has extensive experience in transportation underwriting, specializing in local, intermediate and long haul trucking, the company said.
Before joining Swett & Crawford, DeVries worked with Litchfield Special Risk of El Paso, Texas, as a transportation underwriting specialist. Her responsibilities included all aspects of underwriting, keeping current on trends, industry activity and state/territory issues and regulations as they related to trucking and all classes of business automobile accounts.
DeVries began her career in 1977 as a transportation rater at Western Casualty & Surety in San Antonio, Texas. She moved to Elton George & Co., also of San Antonio, as a transportation underwriter in 1982. She then joined Burns & Wilcox in Arlington, Texas, in 1993 as a transportation underwriter. In 1994 she went to work for Eichlitz, Dennis, Wray & Westheimer of San Antonio. As a transportation and professional liability specialist, DeVries was responsible for servicing the agency’s large trucking accounts as well as professional liability accounts. She then joined Austin Surplus Lines Inc. of Austin, Texas, in 2000, as a senior transportation underwriter where she was the top transportation underwriter for the company.
