Louisiana Regulator Honored by National Insurance Society

Ron Musser, the assistant commissioner of Financial Solvency for the Louisiana Department of Insurance, has received the Al Greer Achievement Award from the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society (IRES), the department announced.

The award, established by the IRES Board of Directors in 1998, is presented annually to an insurance regulator and IRES member who not only embodies the dedication, knowledge and tenacity of a professional regulator, but who exceeds those standards.

Musser has worked for the Department of Insurance for over 32 years. He began his career in 1976 with the Insurance Rating Commission. Musser also served as assistant director of the Market Conduct Division before being named assistant commissioner of the Office of Financial Solvency in 1998.

He is an active member of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, representing Louisiana on the Market Analysis Working Group, Market Analysis Priorities Working Group, Consumer Protections and Innovations Working Group, and The Market Regulation Handbook Working Group.

IRES is an association of professional insurance regulators dedicated to consumer protection. IRES helps to promote fair, cost effective and efficient insurance regulation by ensuring professionalism and integrity among the individuals who serve state and federal insurance regulatory bodies.

The Al Greer Achievement Award is named for the state insurance examiner and founding member of IRES who helped fashion the mission of IRES, which is namely to raise insurance regulation to a highly respected profession marked by technical proficiency and ethical behavior.
