Insured property losses from recent wildfires in Oklahoma could reach $20 million dollars, according to Southwestern Insurance Information Services president Jerry Johns. Johns said “catastrophic and huge” claims are expected.

He says a better estimate will be available within a week but predicts the number will not be much lower than the $20 million dollar figure is a real possibility.

Spokesman John Wiscaver of State Farm Insurance said his company alone expects more than $10 million in home and automobile damage claims.

Officials say the fires that began in dry, windy conditions April 9 destroyed 100 to 150 homes statewide.
