so if it becomes a class action lawsuit, wonder how many of users of facebook will get apiece of the puzzle prize, while the lawyer makes a whole lot more money than any one person in particular…

You seem to have a problem with lawyers making most of the money from a class-action lawsuit. I don’t. Not at all. Yes, I’m an attorney, but I don’t handle class-action cases. So why do I thnk lawyers should be richly rewarded fro these actions?

      1. Class Actions are very expensive to pursue. Busineses fight tooth and nail not to pay and the publication costs when you reach a settlement are very very steep. Someone has to front the expenses to pursue class actions, and lawyers are the ones who stake their own money helping the plaintiffs.

      2. The reason suits are filed as class actions is that there are usually a lot of people who have been victimized, but their individual damages may be small. Without a class action, no lawyer would take up the cause of fighting for one person’s damages. Example: Your bank decides to start charging you $5.00 a month for a debit card, but when they issued the card they promised never to charge a fee. May not be the best example from a legal standpoint, but the point is that an individual is damaged no more than $60/year. Why should the plaintiff recover more than his $60?

      3. Without the class action, the lawyers will not bother and without the class action, the bank will continue to rip off its customers.

Instead of being angry at the lawyers making the money, why aren’t you angry at how people get ripped off by big businesses?
