Houston-based Myron F. Steves & Co. has established the Myron F. Steves Endowed Directorship for the Center for Insurance and Risk Management at the University of Houston Downtown.
The $250,000 endowment recognizes company founder Myron F. Steves and his pioneering effort, leadership and contribution to the development, professionalism and growth of the insurance industry and of his many contributions to education and ethical behavior within the industry.
UHD’s Insurance and Risk Management program is working to build a nationally-ranked, academically-accredited undergraduate degree program and is exploring avenues for offering professional designation continuing education courses to non-degree seeking students.
Enrollment in UHD’s Insurance and Risk Management program has increased from 21 students in Fall 2009, the program’s first year, to 95 students for the Fall 2012 semester.
Since its inception the IRM Center has received more than $550,000 in contributions from the Houston and Texas insurance industry for scholarships and operational support.
