Lack of Insurance, Staff Delays Lil Wayne’s New Orleans Skate Park Opening

By | October 12, 2012

Lack of insurance is among the reasons why the opening has been delayed for a New Orleans skate park launched by Lil Wayne and corporate sponsors.

Ward McLendon, who manages the Lower 9th Ward facility where the Trukstop skate park is located, said there was a “misunderstanding” over when the park would open.

Organizers at a Sept. 26 ribbon-cutting said the park would open to the public on Oct. 1, but McLendon says the insurance and staff needed to run the facility could not be lined up in time.

McLendon says the public will be able to use the park starting Oct. 27.

The Grammy-winning rapper partnered with Mountain Dew and Glu Agency, a New York-based advertising firm, to launch the park, which was built with recycled materials provided by Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation.
