Mayor Urges Louisiana Residents to Join Warning System

May 29, 2013

With the start of hurricane season just days away, Sulphur Mayor Chris Duncan is encouraging Louisiana residents to sign up for the city’s alert system.

Duncan told The American Press that the system, which has been in use for almost three years, is an important source of information during hurricanes and other emergencies.

For example, he says the system was also used to alert residents when an armed robbery suspect fled into a neighborhood.

The system distributes alerts through text messages, phone calls and email.

Duncan says the system is also used to update residents on activities going on in the city, like festivals, movies in the square and parades.

He says residents can register for the system online at Sulphur’s website, www.sulphur.org.
