Let me preface that I am an ex-smoker but still think that people have the right to smoke if they want. I am sick and tired of tobacco companies having to pay out huge sums of money to people who got sick from smoking. For at least a gazillion years people have known that smoking is harmful and addicting. What part of the warnings don’t people understand? How is it the manufactures fault that they used a product known to make them sick or even kill them? And yes, I smoked Marlboro Lights and I did for the taste not because they were “low” nicotine or tar.
Everyone knows that smoking is hazardous to one’s health. People choose to smoke and should take on the responsibility for their choice. Same argument for those who drink and drive.
I am an absolute non-smoker. Growing up in a smoking family killed any urge I may have had to try it.
That being said, I think these lawsuits against tobacco companies are ridiculous, frivolous, and frankly, money-grubbing.
Smoking is bad for you. Always has been, and it’s always been a personal choice. Own up to it.
The only good thing about this article is that the judge okayed the suit to go class-action. Which means only lawyers win. Individual plaintiffs making up the class action will get bupkiss. Assuming they even somehow win.
Oh yeah that’s real good news, you must be a lawyer. Suprised you haven’t found a way to tag along on behalf of your family members with all that 2nd hand smoke & all, yeah?
What’s even more laughable about this is the gov’t lawsuits. If anyone thinks they weren’t complicent in any cover-ups they accused the companies of would be quite naive. Seen the price of a name–brand pack lately? Without the taxes, I think they would be back to $1.50 or so.

My mother has emphazema as a result of her smoking habit and neither of us has been able to quit these blasted things yet. The addiction is so strong. I would also like to know how to be included into this lawsuit for mew and my mothers sake. I live in Searcy, Ark 72143
