Banks have had branches in grocery stores. Remember back in the old days when Allstate was in Sears stores? Get your new tires or batteries and buy insurance while you were at it.
Some Farmers agents operated out of K-Mart in Kalamazoo, Michigan back in the late 70’s.
They were required by K-Mart to be there when the store was open.
8am til 11pm…7 days a week including holidays.
Didn’t sell much. Most quotes were given to husbands that didn’t have anything else to do while their wives shopped. Bored.
Got to love the spin doctors at Farmers, for insinuating that the agents will “own” an agency. As an ex Farmers agent, I can tell you with extreme prejudice that the Farmers agent DOES NOT own the agency. Farmers has, does and will continue in the future take agencies away from the agents that built the book of business. If the agents actually “owned” the agencies, then Farmers would not be able to legally take the book of business from the agent anytime they wanted to. Warning to all Farmers Insurance agent candidates: Please do your research before deciding to sign a legal, binding agreement called the agent appointment agreement with Farmers. Once you sign that agreement, Farmers owns you. You can research Farmers on the internet. http://www.ufaa.com and http://myinsuranceworld.proboards.com/

Allstate is the same way with their “Captive” agents. We had one a couple of blocks away from our office. He got into some trouble, his sign was there one day and replaced the next day with the new agent name.
I WAS a Farmers insurance agent for 35 years. PLEASE do not buy into their propaganda! They are nothing but a bunch of lies! They had a net loss of 1.2 million policies last year! Does that sound like a company that you want to work for? TRUST me, they are the DEVIL!
Loss of 1.2 million policies??? Wow! I wonder if their parent Zurich is pleased with their results. I guess their goofy ads on TV are not attracting many to the Farmers brand. I wonder how 21st Century is doing now.
I have a friend who “has been” a Farmers Agent for 20+ years. He is now “retiring” and wanted me to write some Commercial property he owned since Farmer’s wouldn’t or their rates were doubling on existing coverage. Apparently, they wouldn’t help their own agent with his coverage. He obviously doesn’t trust them and is getting out.
Good for you FFA. Farmers has a big turnover in Agents in our area. Many have contacted several of my Independent companies asking for appointments so they can make their break. I have had several contact me to broker business for them since they didn’t have a market to write it. I have politely declined.
I have politely declined. How very Republican of you, Agent.

Not a company YOU want to be associated with. I was with them for 25 years as they always want you to drink the cool aid. You will have no family life, no respect and constantly beat your agency down – always wanting you to sell life insurance over auto and home. You get penalized and even fired for not selling inflated life insurance policies. Farmers idea is for you to sell policies to your family and friends, then “run you off.” Think 3 times and talk to at least 6 agents before going to work for Farmers as an agent.
Farmers has always thrown agents up against the wall, like dirt, to see if they stick. I started out with FIG in 1982- left in 1989 to go independent. Between 1982 and 1997 they had appointed over 38 agents to maintain five agencies in my service area. They had only ONE bona-fide RETIREMENT during that time perioe and one that left (me) to start an independant agency.
These guys are all thick as fleas on a hound dog already. I think they outnumber convenience stores.
Well sufferin succotash, sure it ain’t no coon dog Opie?
I think it’s more like “Shit fire, Bo!” where he comes from.
Don’t give them the idea or that’s where they’ll put them; in convenience stores!

I was purged from the Il Agency force in 2009. Got out before they tossed me out. Best move I ever made.

How very Progressive Democrat troll of you Libby. I see you still think you are the Agent.
Just what the hell is THE agent? I AM an agent, you moron. I have an agents license to prove it. You really are dumber than dirt.
