    1. Now the government will pass a law to limit the height of truck trailers.
    2. How will this all be handled when vehicles are self driven?

Mickey, would you want a computer driving an 80,000 lb GVW truck? The computer is hacked and it runs over 20 motorists before turning over in a ditch.

Why bother to have size, weight and length limits for trucks when oversize load permits seem easier to obtain that a payday loan.
Anyone notice that the FAA safety rules for airlines are absolute, but I suppose the public just needs to accept 164 ft. long trailers derailing intercity passenger trains. If trucking companies insist on conducting their business on public roads, perhaps they should only be allowed to accept cargo that can be carried in strict compliance with existing truck size rules.

FAA rules don’t stop crews from flying drunk, or flying the plane into the ground (actually Germanwings… but they have rules too). Commerce demands that oversize cargo moves so we can have power, cell phones, etc. We need to more stiffly punish those who are too stupid to know what size their load is. If he had obeyed the law, gotten a permit, this would have never happened. MORE LAWS don’t solve anything, when the problem is people don’t obey the laws already on the books.

The owner of this small trucking company was reported as saying – why don’t they make the bridges taller? Of course he didn’t file for a permit on this load etc.

Well said Brian! That truck owner needs to be charged with involuntary manslaughter. He owns a truck company – he should have known the rules, especially since his company has been cited before for not following safe business practices. His comment – “It’s a new bridge, why don’t they build them higher?” was asinine. He owns a truck company – why doesn’t he follow the rules. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family who just lost a family member due to this mans, arrogance, stupidity, and ignorance.
