Texas Flood Responders Being Trained in Drone Technology

July 27, 2015

Drone technology training is part of a Texas A&M University seminar for emergency responders dealing with deadly flooding like the disastrous May storms.

The 2015 Summer Institute on Flooding takes place at A&M’s Riverside campus in Bryan.

Memorial Day weekend flooding in parts of Texas, including Wimberley, claimed more than two dozen lives statewide. That’s prompted a closer look at how emergency responders can better deal with high-water issues, flood recovery and evolving technology, such as use of drones.

The seminar is organized by the A&M Engineering Experiment Station’s Center for Robot-Assisted Search and Rescue. Educators and insurance industry personnel are also taking part in the institute that wraps up with a field exercise on July 28.
