Texas Regulators Seek Data on Residential Property Hail Litigation

May 23, 2016

The Texas Department of Insurance has issued a data call to gather information about the cost of weather-related residential property claims and the incidence of litigation of these claims.

The Regulatory Policy Division is collecting this information to assist the House Insurance Committee and the Senate Business and Commerce Committee with their interim charges related to this topic. TDI said it does not already have this information available through its residential property statistical plan data.

This data call follows the open discussion meeting held on the matter on April 21, 2016, to receive comments on TDI’s draft of the data call.

All insurers with admitted companies, excluding farm mutual insurance companies, are required to report data under this call. Other insurers, including farm mutual insurers, may voluntarily report certain data under this call.
