Gov. Jeb Bush travels to Pensacola, Fla. today to sign House Bill 6001, a bill creating a 12-day sales tax holiday for buying hurricane supplies. The tax break begins with the start of the season June 1 and runs until June 12.
Consumers will be able to skip the tax on a variety of large and small hurricane-preparedness items, including: generators, flashlights and lanterns, portable radios, walkie-talkies, weather-band radios, tarpaulins and other flexible waterproof sheeting, first-aid kits, ground anchoring systems and tie-down kits, gas and diesel fuel tanks, batteries and coolers.
Analysts estimate the tax holiday will save Florida taxpayers about $8 million.
