September 28, 2005

The new slate of officers of the Professional Insurance Agents of Florida will take over Oct. 1, with Lori Williams, president; Bob Fowinkle, president-elect; Phil Zelman, vice president; and Doug Whitaker, secretary/treasurer.

“We are very impressed with the officers’ involvement in our association, promoting the insurance industry and helping to generate more open markets,” Mark O’Connell, PIA of Florida CEO said. “Each of the officers has been instrumental in the growth of our association and we see the officers, as well as the rest of the board, furthering the industry even more.”

Williams is president of J. Meyers Insurance Group in Orlando, which specializes in personal and commercial insurance lines of insurance. Williams has served as the association’s vice president and as president-elect for the past two years. She has been actively involved in PIA’s Legislative Committee, serving as co-chair, and on PIA’s Budget and Membership committees.

Fowinkle owns the Moore Fowinkle & Schroer Agency in Bradenton. PIA honored Fowinkle for his contributions to the agency system by naming him the 2004 “Agent of the Year.” He has pledged to work closely with Williams.

Zelman, vice president and owner of NCF Insurance Agency in Coral Gables, will assist in budgeting and membership efforts. He is a second generation of insurance agents in his family and his son continues the tradition as the third generation to become an agent.

Whitaker is president and owner of Harrell Agency in Jasper. His agency covers many of the farming interests in northeast Florida.

PIA of Florida boasts 600 members and represents agents throughout the state. It provided members with legislative advocacy; quality education programs; timely, unbiased information; and discounted member services designed to help insurance agents compete successfully.
