LIG Schedules Four One-Day Marine Contractors’ Workshops, Seminars

Four one-day seminars on commercial marine insurance including a Marine Contractors’ Workshop, navigating interlocking coverages, navigating commercial marine liabilities and navigating marine workers’ compensation will be held in 2006 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., London, England, and Atlanta by LIG Educational & Consulting Services, LIG Marine Managers sister education company.

According to a company spokesperson with the ever-changing marine market place, these seminars are timely, dynamic, and are registered for six hours of continuing education credits in Florida and several southeastern states.

The Marine Contractors’ Workshop will be held March 22 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and count for six continuing education credits. This course provides a wealth of information on a variety of topics including: CGL, protection and indemnity, forms comparison, inclusion/exclusion of crew, equipment, dock and pier coverages and limitations, CCC issues with ship repairers, wharfingers, terminal operators and stevedores legal liability.

During the class there will also be a discussion of longshore and maritime exposures. The class will be held at the Sheraton Ft. Lauderdale Airport Hotel, 1825 Griffin Road, Dania, Fla.

A seminar on navigating interlocking coverages will be held April 5 in London, England. It will include unique coverages for marine employees including longshore, the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, maritime employers liability and protection and indemnity.

Participants will study each remedy and how they interlock and look at how to best structure each coverage to avoid unwarranted claims.

Navigating commercial marine liabilities will be discussed during a May 17 seminar in Atlanta. Participants will qualify for three continuing education credits in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.

Topics will include third-party liabilities, such as commercial general liability and major exclusions and limitations in non-marine forms. Other topics include protection and indemnity coverage, major exclusions and a comparison of forms in common use. Additionally, participants will review crew coverage, care, custody and control liability, wharfingers, terminal operators, stevedores legal liability, common endorsements, umbrellas and bumbershoots.

A course on navigating marine workers’ compensation will also be presented on May 17 in Atlanta. This course, worth three continuing education credits, is an expansive discussion of the Longshore and Harborworkers Act, maritime employers liability, Merchant Marine Act (The Jones Act), protection and indemnity, and all forms of marine exposures for employees.

Discussions will also cover how to properly identify these various exposures, the recommended coverages for them, plus how they fit into a risk management program of businesses with maritime exposures.

Both classes will be held at the Sheraton Midtown Atlanta, 188 14th Street NE, Atlanta, Ga.

Navigating commercial marine liabilities will be the subject of a Sept. 12 course in Tampa, Fla. Six continuing education credits will be applied from attendance at this event.
