I am all for the right to bear arms. I own several guns myself and keep them at home locked up. However, owning a gun does increase your liability if you ever use it at home, justified or not.

Seems to me if a Company wants to give a credit or a debit for whatever it’s the Company’s business, not the Government’s business. Let the Market decide.

We would not let companies charge more to Democrats vs Republicans or blacks vs whites. Same thing with gun ownership. Just because it’s politically correct to discriminate against gun owners does not make it right nor would we simply let the “market” dictate discrimination that is unlawful or based on bias.

Seriously Wayne? Or better yet. You can’t be serious, Wayne. Equating gun ownership with race or political party? I KNOW I will not accidently shoot someone because guess what? I DON’T OWN A GUN. I know the neighborhood kids will not get hold of my gun and shoot one another because guess what? I DON’T OWN A GUN.

Even though I know it’s politically incorrect to appear to be against the 2nd Amendment, there certainly is an increased risk of liability associated with having a gun on your premises and carriers should be able to underwrite that. It’s not discriminatory.

Tell ya what else won’t happen Libby. Ya won’t be able to hold a loaded gun in your hand to prevent your death or great bodily harm, should that need arise. Like to see your statistics on increased liability associated with gun ownership. It’s a third of the country, by the way.

I know I will not accidentally shoot someone because I’m a responsible gun owner. I know the neighborhood kids will not get hold of my gun and shoot one another because I’m a responsible gun owner.

Do you know how many “responsible gun owners” never think they’ll be involved in an accidental shooting until they are? That type of attitude is what’s wrong with gun owners. You all think you are somehow special and therefore immune from danger. You’re not. You can not be lax about owning a gun.

You’re an idiot [on this issue] Libby. explain to me how neighborhood kids are going to get a hold of my gun that is locked in a safe?

And, shouldn’t every American citizen also have the right to choose their own healthcare without the government getting involved in that??? We know what happened there…

This is about politicians beating their chests about gun rights and defending the 2nd Amendment. It has nothing to do with protecting the public or providing better coverage for insureds. More people are bitten by dogs every year than shot with guns and these people are left with no recourse because of the animal liability exclusions that are so prevalent in Florida policies. Small children incur permanent injury, by the most benign breeds, and there’s typically no coverage available. But this isn’t a sexy, vote getting topic like guns.

SWFL, where do you get your statement: “there’s typically no coverage available”? the average dog bite claim is about $26,000 paid out! it’s one of the leading liability claims paid by insurance companies!

Joe, I suspect you don’t live in Florida. The majority of Fl carriers exclude animal liability and very few have a buy back option.

This law should really stimulate a stampede of new insurers begging to enter the Florida homeowners market. Besides, it should reduce rates by eliminating the expense of underwriter’s time considering yet another risk factor.

Yeah, right! Carriers are clamoring to enter Florida! It’s not bad enough with the hurricanes, now we have half-wit hillbilly rednecks running around with loaded guns. I’ll stay up north or out west, thank you.

Yes, all gun owners fall into the category of “half-wit hillbillies,” and all gun crime/violence is perpetrated by them.
