Specialist global insurer Hiscox has appointed John Giralt as head of Property for its Miami MGA operation.

Joining from Catlin XL where he was a director covering the Americas, Giralt was responsible for managing the Latin American and Caribbean underwriting operations including its facultative product lines – property, engineering, energy and casualty. With almost 30 years in the industry, 20 years of which have been focused on Latin America and the Caribbean, Giralt has experience and contacts which will be important in his new role, according to the company.

Giralt will be focused on writing property, power generation and construction business throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on behalf of Hiscox and, as required, additional partner capacity providers. With a capacity of $25million per risk, his work will focus on writing local business, providing clients with responsive protection whilst also complementing Hiscox’s existing international property book.

According to Rebecca Ince, who runs the Hiscox MGA Miami office, Giralt’s appointment strengthens Hiscox’s Miami operations and complements its terrorism and fine art business in the region.

Hiscox MGA Miami sits within Hiscox MGA which was created earlier this year with the acquisition of the mega-yacht and general marine leisure MGA business, R&Q Marine Services. The Miami MGA office, which has bilingual Spanish and English speaking underwriting teams, provides a regionally-focused underwriting hub for Latin American business for Hiscox MGA and its partners. This appointment is part of a continued growth strategy for the region.
