Summer Flood Repairs in Florida’s Pasco County Total More Than $100M

Pasco County, Florida officials have learned that flooding this past summer could end up costing the county more than $107 million in repairs.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the county’s Public Works Manager DiAnna Rawleigh told county commissioners Tuesday in New Port Richey that hundreds of roads are in need of repairs.

Rawleigh says the 144 damaged streets in west Pasco County could cost $15 million for traditional repaving.

Storm-water drainage work, earlier forecast at $61 million, is now estimated at $92.5 million. Without additional funding, the county said, it would take 74 years to finish the repairs.

Heavy rains in the county during July and August – including 40 inches in Elfers – caused flooding that destroyed 46 homes and damaged 300 more.
