Mitchell Medical, Cardiff Software to Create Scanning Claims Solution

July 17, 2001

Mitchell Medical, the premier provider of cost-containment solutions for medical claims processing solutions for the auto insurance industry, and Cardiff Software Inc., a leader in forms processing and eBusiness automation solutions, announced a partnership to deliver a scanning solution that will allow insurance companies to automatically convert HCFA forms from paper to electronic data. The new solution was developed by Mitchell Medical and integrates Decision Point with Cardiff’s MediClaimâ„¢ system.

Insurance companies using the system will be able to scan submitted bills and related attachments and import them to Decision Point with increased speed and accuracy, reducing the overall claims processing cycle and providing more efficient customer service. Decision Point is the industry’s leading suite of web-based medical bill review software.

Once bills are received in the mailroom, they are scanned into the system with a red drop out scanner. Cardiff’s MediClaim software reads the information from the bills and converts them to electronic data. After the bills are validated to correct any errors, they are electronically imported into Decision Point, where they are automatically processed and pended for claim representative review.

Using this system, the average claim processor can process three to four times the number of bills per day in comparison to manual data entry. Insurance companies can permanently store records in an electronic format, while claim representatives can quickly retrieve electronic documents to answer questions regarding a bill while a caller is on the line. The system works with existing document systems such as FileNET.

According to the company, Cardiff’s integrated eTransaction solutions are used by more than 20,000 organizations, including Global 2000 companies, to automate a wide range of business transactions and processes. Cardiff’s Information Capture, eForm Management, and eDocument Automation products work together to replace manual processing with automated online systems.

Mitchell International Inc., founded in 1946 and headquartered in San Diego, is a provider of information software and e-business solutions for the insurance and automotive repair industries. Mitchell facilitates several million electronic transactions between more than 16,000 business partners each month.
