Ariz. Gov. Janet Napolitano has appointed former State Compensation Fund (SCF) of Arizona board member Jim Weeks to return as its chair, replacing Bruce Thoeny, who served 10 years.
Weeks sat on SCF’s finance board for two years prior to receiving an appointment in 1990 by then Gov. Rose Mofford to fill a three-year board vacancy.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Weeks moved to Arizona in 1952 and became a U.S. citizen in 1960. He has a long history of public service beginning with the Phoenix City Council, where he served from 1974-76. Two years later, he successfully ran for a seat on the Arizona Corporation Commission, where he served for six years. He also was elected to a post on the Central Arizona Water Conservation District board of directors, where he served from 1990-96.
Along with his previous term on the SCF board, the Surprise, Ariz., resident served 22 years on the Arizona OSHA Review Board and is a current member of the Arizona Farm Labor Board.
Weeks also has served 10 years as business manager for the Iron Workers Local No. 75; two terms on the AFL-CIO’s executive board; and four years as president of Southern Arizona Building Trades.
