Kibble & Prentice Expands Medical Liability Practice

To address the increased difficulty health practitioners are having obtaining liability insurance, Seattle-based Kibble & Prentice has expanded its medical liability insurance practice. To this end, Philip Dyer has joined Kibble & Prentice to head its growing medical liability practice. Dyer, who has been in the insurance industry for 26 years, has 18 years of specialized experience in medical insurance liability, including management positions with The Doctors’ Company and Washington Casualty. He has also been a member of the Washington State Legislature and was a technical advisor to the Washington Health Care Commission.

Over the last five years Washington State has experienced a 33.4 percent increase in medical liability insurance rates, according to the Medical Liability Monitor, a publication of the US Department of Health and Human Services. Increasing rates, combined with in some cases an inability to obtain liability insurance at any cost, have precipitated a liability insurance crisis for many doctors and clinics.

Prior to being a vice president at The Doctors’ Company, Dyer, a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), was senior vice president at Washington Casualty Company, where he specialized in coverage liability for physicians and clinics.
