ITC Awards $125,000 to SoCal Children’s Organizations

January 25, 2005

As chairman of the grants committee of Insuring the Children, Orange County Chapter, Lawrence G. Shoaf has reported that in 2004, Insuring the Children awarded grants to seven Southern California charities totaling $125,000.

The awards included:
$30,000 to the Orange County Child Abuse Center
$20,000 to Orange County YMCA’s ARK Program
$20,000 to the Children’s Bureau of Los Angeles
$20,000 to Childhelp USA
$15,000 to Orangewood Children’s Foundation
$15,000 to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Orange County
$5,000 to Canyon Acres

“As an industry, it’s our business to offer protection to people through insurance, and what better group to protect than kids?” said Shoaf. “With all the cutbacks and downsizing, it’s been a real struggle for the non-profit sector. As an industry, we’re happy to help organizations who so selflessly give to children who really need it most.”

Insuring the Children is a group of insurance professionals working together to raise funds to support programs that will reduce and eventually eliminate child abuse and neglect in our society. Monies are raised through donations and two annual fund raisers – an industry wide forum held in the spring and a golf tournament held in the fall.
