Santa Rosa State Fund Office Raises $5K for Katrina Victims

September 21, 2005

State Compensation Insurance Fund’s Santa Rosa District Office has contributed approximately $5,300 to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. The office’s Hurricane Katrina contribution is just one of many community fund drives employees have undertaken through an ongoing community services program whose beneficiaries range from at-risk youth to the homeless.

The Hurricane Katrina donation to the Santa Rosa American Red Cross was supported by District Manager Rich Schultz who, along with employees, has raised thousands of dollars for multiple projects and programs over the years.

In the past year alone, District Office employees have volunteered time to mentor at-risk youth, provided food, clothing and toiletries to the homeless and ‘shut ins’ and participated in the Sonoma County Volunteer Center’s Human Race – one of the nation’s largest charity events which helps fund over 500 community non-profits.

Each quarter, the District Office parking lot serves as a staging point for the Blood Bank of the Redwoods mobile donation bus. Employee Lisa Goodman, who coordinates the office’s blood bank effort, was lauded by the blood bank organization for her dedication and commitment to the cause. Since 2001 district employees have donated almost 500 units of blood in an effort to increase the local supply.

In addition, office volunteers have worked in local parks and stocked supplies as well as distributed food at food banks.

The Santa Rosa District Office, which serves more than 10,000 policyholders, houses a formal “Community Services Committee” composed of seven employees who meet monthly to identify and respond to community needs.

“I’m very proud of our employees who reflect the spirit behind the motto ‘giving back to the community,'” said Schultz. “We can’t address all of the community’s needs, but we are committed to making a contribution that we hope will make a difference in someone’s life.”
