John Ireland has been named associate research director of the California Workers’ Compensation Institute, the Oakland-based nonprofit organization that serves as the research arm of the California workers’ compensation industry.
In his new position, he will work closely with Institute Research Director Alex Swedlow in support of ongoing research studies, including CWCI claim frequency surveys, injury scorecard analyses and research into the impact of recent legislative reforms. In addition, Ireland will serve as research liaison to the Institute’s standing committees, represent CWCI at professional and public forums, and work with staff, members and others in the workers’ compensation community to expand data-related products and services utilizing CWCI’s Industry Claims Information System (ICIS) database.
Ireland joins the Institute after having served as the business line manager for occupational health sales and marketing for Kaiser Permanente in Oakland. During his 12-year tenure at Kaiser, he was involved in a number of major workers’ compensation medical care projects, including development of Kaiser’s Health Care Organization and Medical Provider Network, the 24-Hour Coverage Pilot Project, and the State Compensation Insurance Fund/Kaiser Alliance.
Ireland can be reached at (510) 251-9470, or by e-mail jireland@cwci.org.
