Southern California Firemen Granted Safety Equipment

October 20, 2009

Bliss & Glennon, Inc. and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. have awarded a $5,691 grant to the Hermosa Beach, Calif. Fire Department for the purchase of new safety equipment.

The new gear includes goggles, hand tools, hose and forestry nozzles to ensure their firefighters are outfitted with adequate tools for their work. Firefighters will also receive new-generation shelters and training shelters with the grant. They use the shelters as a last-line of defense for themselves when they are fighting wildfires.

“Proper training and protective gear are critical for any firefighter who is on the front lines,” said Fire Chief David Lantzer. “Outfitting members with new gear can be prohibitively expensive, which is why this grant is so important to us.”

The grant package is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund. The program is designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire departments.

Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to more than 1,000 different fire departments totaling more than $23 million, with $6.8 million of those grants in California. Independent insurance agencies that sell Fireman’s Fund products are able to direct these grants to support fire stations in their communities. Bliss & Glennon, Inc. was instrumental in directing this specific one to the Hermosa Beach Fire Department.

Bliss & Glennon, Inc. is a lnational surplus lines broker and managing general agent privately owned and headquartered in Redondo Beach, Calif.
