The board of governors of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) based in Walnut Creek, Calif., has appointed Walter A. Bell, chairman of Swiss Re American Holding Corp., to its national board of governors.
Bell has a long and distinguished 25-plus-year career, having served in a multitude of public and private sector roles including his position as the insurance commissioner for Alabama from 2003- to 2007. While Commissioner, he also served as president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and vice chairman of the IAIS Executive Committee. He is a retired vice president of diversity marketing for the MONY Group
Currently, Mr. Bell serves as the non-executive chairman of Swiss Re America Holding Corp. and certain other U.S. affiliates of Swiss Re. As a sitting member of the board of directors of the Bermuda Monetary Authority, he is the organization’s first international member. He is a director on the board of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health and holds memberships with the Partnership of New York, the Financial Services Roundtable, the Economic Club of New York and the Institute of International Bankers.
The IICF combines the collective resources and talents of the insurance industry to give back to communities through grants, volunteer service and leadership.
