2 Southern California Schools Closed over Asbestos Will Reopen

August 26, 2015

Two of three Orange County, Calif. schools closed last year after asbestos was found will reopen for classes at the start of the new school year.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Hope View and Oak View elementary schools in Huntington Beach will welcome all students back on Sept. 9.

Ocean View School District officials say the third school, Lake View Elementary, also in Huntington Beach, will remain closed for the entire school year over continuing asbestos concerns.

asbestosSmall amounts of asbestos, a mineral fiber linked to disease, were found at the schools last fall during a modernization project.

Students from Hope View, Oak View and Lake View – more than 1,600 in all – were bused to eight other schools in four districts after the campuses were closed in October.
