Builders Edge Insurance Services

Part-Time Remote P&C Account Manager / Agency Operations

Posted on Sep 15 Remote $28 - $35 / hour

ABOUT BUILDERS EDGE INSURANCE SERVICES

Builders Edge Insurance Services is an established, boutique independent P&C agency based in California, with a strong emphasis on Commercial Lines. We value long-term client relationships, professional autonomy and high-quality service.

We're looking for an experienced insurance professional who still enjoys the business but wants something different from the typical high-volume account manager position.

This is not a position where you'll be handed an overwhelming book of business and expected to keep up. We're a small independent agency looking for one experienced, trustworthy person who can help manage our existing book and gradually become an important part of the agency's day-to-day operations.

No corporate bureaucracy. No call-center metrics. No unnecessary meetings or micromanagement. Just solid independent-agency work, considerable autonomy and a manageable workload.

A FLEXIBLE ROLE WITH ROOM TO GROW

This position is designed to start relatively small and grow naturally if it's a good fit for both of us.

We anticipate approximately 12–15 hours per week initially, with a flexible weekday schedule and the opportunity for additional hours and responsibility as the relationship develops and agency needs warrant.

The position will begin with a 60–90 day introductory period. During that time, you'll become familiar with our clients, markets, systems and workflow, and responsibilities will expand as we establish a comfortable working relationship.

We're not looking for short-term help. Our goal is to find the right person and develop a trusted, long-term relationship within the agency.

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

Your primary role will be helping manage and service the agency's existing book of Commercial and Personal Lines P&C business.

If you enjoy producing, you'll also have the opportunity to generate your own Personal or Commercial Lines accounts through Builders Edge and earn commissions on eligible business you bring in.

There are no production quotas. Write as much or as little new business as fits your interests and goals.

For the right person, this creates an opportunity to combine steady part-time income, flexible remote work, increasing responsibility and optional producer income.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage Commercial Lines renewals from start to finish, including remarketing when appropriate
  • Assist with Personal Lines renewals and servicing
  • Handle policy changes, endorsements, certificates of insurance, audits and other routine account servicing
  • Prepare applications and submissions and follow through on underwriting requirements
  • Communicate directly with clients, standard carriers, underwriters, wholesalers and general agencies
  • Monitor routine agency email and incoming client inquiries
  • Handle routine telephone calls and recognize when an issue should be escalated
  • Maintain accurate client files, activities and policy records in the agency management system
  • Help keep daily agency workflow moving independently and reliably

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Strong Commercial Lines experience is essential, preferably within an independent insurance agency

  • Significant hands-on experience servicing and managing Commercial P&C accounts from renewal through binding and ongoing servicing
  • Familiarity with General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Commercial Auto, Commercial Property, Inland Marine and E&S/broker markets

  • Experience with contractors and construction-related accounts is a strong plus

  • Personal Lines experience is also strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with California Personal Lines, including the California FAIR Plan and companion/DIC coverage, is a plus

  • Active resident P&C license in your home state
  • California P&C license preferred but not required; we will assist the right candidate with obtaining a California nonresident license and cover the licensing cost
  • Comfortable working directly with standard carriers, wholesalers, general agencies and underwriters
  • Familiarity with agency management systems and modern digital insurance workflows
  • Strong telephone and client communication skills
  • Organized, self-directed and capable of managing routine account workflows independently
  • Good insurance judgment, including knowing when an issue should be escalated to the agency owner

This is not an entry-level position. We're looking for someone who already understands independent-agency P&C insurance—particularly Commercial Lines—and can step into the role with minimal training.

COMPENSATION

$28–$35 per hour, depending on experience, for approximately 12–15 hours per week initially.

Additional hours and responsibilities may become available as the relationship develops and agency workload warrants.

Separate commission compensation is available on eligible new and renewal business personally produced.
