On April 5, an Illinois Appellate Court upheld most of a lower court’s verdict in a nationwide class-action lawsuit against State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. regarding the use of non-OEM parts. Due to a technical error in the calculation of damages, the $1.2 billion awarded by the lower court was reduced by the appellate court by $130 million. State Farm, the country’s largest auto insurer, expressed its disappointment in the verdict, which it will appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court.
