The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Association of Independent Insurers (NAII) announced they will jointly sponsor a program Oct. 10 in Allentown, Pa. to assist small business managers improve safe workplace conditions.
The first in a series of four safety workshops entitled “Safety at Work I: Risk Management Techniques for Small Business” will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn located at the intersection of I-78 and Route 100 in the Lehigh Valley. Several workshops in this program, offered free to small businesses, have been held in Pennsylvania, the pilot state, the past two years.
This workshop will focus on why safety is important to a business’ bottom line, the elements of a safety and health program, how to integrate safety into a business plan and the free resources available to small businesses to help them be safe.
“Surveys conducted before and after other workshops in this program indicate they have been very successful,” said Arlene Ryndak, National Association of Independent Insurers (NAII) manager of loss control. “They met the goal of heightening awareness of the importance of safety and health programs to small business. They also confirmed the willingness of small businesses to take further steps in developing a safety and health program and to seek free assistance from the insurance industry, OSHA, and PA/OSHA Consultation Service.”
The workshops are geared toward owners or managers of businesses that have fewer than 100 employees or do not have a full-time safety professional or risk manager.
