Wel, the commissioner moved forward with Tillinghast’s recommendation, but the largest insurers that have the market cornered, filed suit, and have the reform on hold.
It’s merely a stalling tactic, to milk the market for one more year. The court will pass the reform I am sure, and then when the AIP structure solidifies, Insurers will return.
nothing will change until carriers can charge a fair premium for inexperienced operators, those in higher risk territories, and any other risk criteria (including credit). The “take all comers” ridiculousness where less desirable risks pay the same premium as those deemed better risk must stop.
I don’t live in Mass, but it seems that from the outside, the insurance environment is as dysfunctional as the legislative environment. There is no competition because the legislature has created a state-run insurance bureacracy. The market is in turmoil because you can’t solve economic problems with legislative solutions. Insurance in it’s most purest form is an economic function.
I strongly agree with the competitive insurance marcket in mass.
Im currently in Southern California and the rates are competive and my bill is less than 150.00$ in mass its well over 250.00.And im soon moveing back to Lawrence were its one off the highest in the state.

Sorry Commerce, your day in the sun is over.

The rates will never drop because the Mass drivers are so TERRIBLE!!! Why do you think people in other states call them “MASSHOLES”.
Great comment TL!
