This is more proof that no license is any assurance of quality.
Having a license doesn’t mean you are a good driver. A doctor license doesn’t mean you are a good doctor. The same is true with anything for which a license is issued.
Having a license means you have paid the appropriate tax to the licensing agency.
    It’s a receipt.

The other problem is how do you stop someone like this who lives in a rural state, which probably at best has bus service only in the big cities. Out in the boonies it either Greyhound or trailways and at best only at cerain times. I am sure these people are driving to the court paying their fine not getting back their licenses than getting in their car and driving home. This guy probably needed to drive to work and he took a chance and got caught.

Do we now clog up the jails with drivers who have suspended licenses.

    Unfortunately there’s no answer

Confiscate their car for the legnth of the suspension; and hold anyone else legally responsible if they allow an individule without a license to drive their car; require the vehicle be registered in a spouse’s name with the same consequences

Not a bad idea except if the car is leased or has a lien on it. If this happened to me, why should I pay for a car I can’t drive, But it also might make me think twice about drinking and driving, if I still have to make the lease and insurnace payments

Since the owning & operating a car is a privilege, the abuse of that privilege can be revoked.

In Mass. you can not have a car registered in your name and be the only licensed driver on the policy if your license has been suspended.

If you have a DWI, the insurance co. will revoke Physical Damage Coverage regardless if there is a loan or is a Leased veh.

There are consequences for one’s actions.

The availability of public transportation is no a concern. If the person wilfully breaks the law, drinking and driving or other violations, they should be punnished. If the punishment is pointless like a child sent to their room when they have their telephone, computer and tv in their room there is no concern for the violation. If transportation is a problem, they should keep that in mind when they are driving, and observe the laws and courtesies common for the priveledge of driving.

ITA- if you can’t abide by the laws- either driving or insurance laws for motor vehicles- I don’t care if you have to walk 20 miles for a gallon of milk.
I live in Fla, and I’d say I know 20 people that have been hit by drivers with no license or insurance. Including me. And to be honest, if the guy that left me holding the bag for HIS stupidity had to walk 30 miles I would be GLAD.
Clogging the jails a issue for some people? Well, THEY can pay the higher premiums for non-insured motorist for me, because I say arresting them 15 times BEFORE putting them in jail for 90 days is ridiculous.
6 months ago we had 2 toddlers killed because a drunk driver that hadn’t had a license in 5 years went for a joyride. He’d been picked up 25 or 29 times, I forget how many. Now 2 babies are dead thanks to him. (and the system) He’ll be in jail for 20 years NOW, but where were the penalties BEFORE those children died?
