Don\’t use GEICO. Go somewhere else. That\’s what a \’free market\’ is all about.

I agree, but that only works if you live in a state that truly allows a free market to work – NJ isn\’t there yet.

I\’m a caveman & not only I am upset w/GEICO\’s TV ads about my relatives, but I do not have a good education. My GEICO rates are about 30% higher than my neighbor. My neighbor lives in a nice split level home but I live in the backyard cave.

Yes, some of you finally got it correct….all of you ignorant folks, please go away….we don\’t need any uneducated folks putting in more claims than our educated white…..hmmm strike that, I didn\’t mean white…..I mean……well, you know, love.\”

The lizard is obviously just parroting what Fox News tells him. Anyone who knows the average Ph.D. is well aware that they tend to operate on a higher plane, far above the petty problems of us Little People, and can\’t be bothered with stuff like the physics of highway driving when they have Deep Thoughts to think. They don\’t even need cell phones to be abyssmal drivers!

No matter what conclusions folks draw from various underwriting schemes, the facts seem to bear out that things like credit (you don\’t have to be rich to have a good credit score), education and jobs all are valid predictors of loss frequency. As seen in studies (check out the one they did in Texas), these factors are not indicative or race/national origin/religion, etc, they are factors that define the individual being rated for auto insurance.

If you are on the losing side, you want to blame the system. We have become a nation of whiners who always want to blame someone else for their problems. Whatever bacame of personal responsibility?

You have a bad credit score? Fix it! Don\’t buy/lease a fancy car, pay off your credit card bills, don\’t run a balance. Don\’t get your kids the fanciest and most expensive Nike\’s or whatever \”everone else\” is wearing. If you can\’t afford that stuff, don\’t buy them. And since when does every kid need a cell phone that takes pictures and run up high bills due to text messaging.

I couldn\’t agree more. Personally, I had 22 years of problems because I didn\’t pay attention to my credit rating; I didn\’t pay my electric, gas or phone unlees it suited me, had no qualms about paying them late, drove uninsured, credit cards went bust and I changed jobs as often as my socks. I went back to school, got a white collar job starting at the bottom and am slowly working my way back. I have more pride in my new profession than in anything I did prior. I settled with my creditors after 4 years of payments, my credit improved, my insurance rates are competitive; I\’m not rich at all but I ain\’t blaming anyone but myself. I took responsiblity for my problems and worked to make it better. I don\’t expect anyone to subsidize my lifestyle and I don\’t intend to take on anyone else\’s problems; if blue collar rates are higher, then do something about it; my step kids all think they should start at the top and don\’t believe in hard work…they think that\’s for chumps; as long as we subsidize others, they will learn to expect an entitlement. Spreading the \”risk\” to all classes doesn\’t make sense to me.I, for one, think that insurance in NJ is getting more competitive because of the application of underwriting standards which are realistic predictors of expected losses.
