There is the ‘not wearing his seat belt angle’ which I assume was the case. Freakish or not, it results in all of us paying higher auto premiums. Does that make you feel better?
YOR are a ***!!!!!!!!!!!
An elderly man from New Jersey died after being crushed beneath his own car while trying to maneuver around a shopping cart. Eighty-one-year-old . aND YOU PEOPLE SELL Insurance. MAY GOD BE WITH THIS FAMILY.
They want to live as long as they can so they can bankrupt medicare. If it weren’t for doctors appointments and early bird dinner specials they’d have nothing to do. mr Dread you will get old to one day if you are lucky. This man work is hole life and that is all you can think of…. please for the love of god tell me you do not sell insurance.

If he is stupid enough to die by these circumstances, then I am glad he is off the road and no longer has the potential to hurt someone other than himself.
Why stop there? What about the grocery store that failed to confine its carts to the parking lot corrals? The signs say “not responsible for damaged caused by carts” but surely the driver can’t be faulted for his efforts to drive *around* one of them…
You gotta know this 81 year old genius was driving a Mercury Grand Marquis. Seems the senior set has an affinity for driving (or attempting to drive) the largest car they can find. This is considered “defensive driving” amongst old people as a large, old cars protects them from getting hurt while they injure and kill others. They want to live as long as they can so they can bankrupt medicare. If it weren’t for doctors appointments and early bird dinner specials they’d have nothing to do.
There won’t be any premium implications since the only 1st party coverage would be MP.
I love how people bash senior citizens…keep on bashing this guy…cause you too will be his age someday and a whole new generation of even more ruthless people will be bashing you!
I guess that the saying is correct: stupid is as stupid does. This has nothing to do with being a “senior citizen”. It is a testament, however, to the need to restrict drivers licenses and registrations to those (of any age range) who can pass a basic intelligence test.
and not get emotional; an 81 year old man driving a car that he couldn’t handle, doing something he should have thought about first. Why not get out and move the damn cart? If my son did this, he would be a candidate for the Darwin award. and BTW, I have no problem with having to take my drivers test every two years after I retire, if that will ensure that I won’t hurt myself or others. but in America it’s your right to be an idiot, isn’t it? I see 20 somethings who can’t drive either and no one complains….
age does not matter, it could have been an 18 yr old and hit the wrong pedal. the door obviously was closed because he was backing out. seatbelt, well that is another issue that was never addressed in the article. but i agree with an earlier statement – why is this an insurance issue? are we pretending to look at suing anyone? i don’t think so! it was a pure accident. (must have been a slow insurance news day.)
If the grocery store has roof top cameras scanning the parking lot, you might be in business. Get the tapes and sue the guy who didn’t put the cart in the corral or wheel it back into the store.
It’s probably not a good idea to drive with your door open, but do we need to petition the automakers to make vehicles that can’t be put in gear if a door is open? I’m sure that coming down the road, if it’s not here already.
PEOPLE – Don’t use all caps, it’s so annoying. You can’t complain about others being idiots when you yourself don’t know the proper way of corresponding.
JJ: WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, LET US MAKE A PACT TO STICK TO ISSUES. I LIKE USING ALL CAPS—I DON’T DO IT TO IRRITATE YOU. I PROMISE NOT TO GET IRRITATED WHETHER YOU CHOOSE TO USE ALL LOWER CASE. I JUST USE ALL CAPS CUZ I PREFER TO DO IT THAT WAY!
Interesting how you use the word respect… it’s hard to focus on the articles and subsequent comments when you use all caps, it’s just rude. Trust me, I’m not the only one who thinks this way. If you don’t follow “proper communication” you just seem ignorant.
JJ: EACH OF US IS ENTITLED TO OUR OPINION. I TRY TO IGNORE MISSPELLINGS, ETC. AS I KNOW I AM NOT AT ALL PERFECT EITHER. BUT IF I SPEND TIME TRYING TO CORRECT THE DICTION, SPELLING, ETC. OF OTHERS, I FEAR I WOULD LOSE MY CONCENTRATION ON THE DETAILS OF ISSUES BEING DISCUSSED. BUT MAYBE YOU ARE FAR MORE INTELLIGENT THAN I. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I am really trying to see where this is an insurance issue. It looks more like a story for the freak accident of the week.

You don’t think the guy’s family won’t sue the auto maker for not having labeled warnings about not driving the vehicle with the doors open?

Well stated.
How idiotic can a human being be?

Stop the madness!! Stop the CAPS!!! Stop the stupidity!!
Good luck with that.
Confucious say…Stupidity is to people, what stink is to dookie.
A nasty bi-product that we have to tolerate.
It is truly rare to have a stankless turd, but some turds do smell worse than others; as ANDY ALLCAPS so perfectly exemplifies.
