When, WHEN, will this madness stop!!? Our abortion minded society has caused this crap. People treating their dogs like children, progressing to Chimp ownership, treatingthem like people. Europe has extended human rights to Gorillas. They’re NOT HUMANS!!!! Stop having wanton sex with everyone you meet, get married, have a kid that you actually want, not you, single mom on welfare and sotp this madness! 60 minutes did a special that made me want to vomit. Perhaps we need to take away human rights for these idiots. Someone inquired about owning bats???

Well said Reagan. The inmates are running the asylum. The world has lost common sense and judgment. Our society is deteriorating rapidly and sooner or later it will hit the wall.

Why should the State have laws for everything? Since the state didn’t have a law against owning a Chimp, they could be sued too. Get real! People need to accept the consequences of their own actions and not find someone else to blame. I guess if I ever sign a legal document and decide later I didn’t want to follow it, I’ll just blame the State for not having a law stating that I cannot sign legal papers without a lawyer present.

Not sure why PETA is being referred to as Idiots. PETA gets a little stagy and attention grabbing and over the top with some of their public displays, but their hearts are in the right place. This poor chimp freaked out, maimed an innocent person and lost his life in the process. http://blog.peta.org/archives/2009/02/rip_travis.php

Anyone who would replace their dead husband with a freaking primate needs psychological help. Being a CT resident, i’m SICK of hearing about this. The woman was bat $hit crazy, slept with this chimp, fed it lobster and filet mignon, etc. She’s insane. Let her get sued, take away the right to own primates and lets move on. There’s zero reason for anyone to own a primate as a pet. PERIOD. Anyone who says otherwise needs to have their head examined. Too bad the chimp got shot and not the owner for being such an idiot.

This topic has been beaten to death so much, i’d almost rather hear about stimulus bills and credit default swaps instead.

People still buy the Star and National Inquirer. These gross topics generate interest out of sheer boredom with reality. We can only take so much politics and economic disaster. We all need a distraction on occasion. It is definitely up there with having Elvis’s baby in terms of important topics though.

I’m really (not) surprised by your lack of understanding or compassion. I am an animal lover, so I do get it. I’m not condoning her owning the chimp in the first place, but I do understand her deep attachment to it. This was her life for years. You may not think they’re human, but man they are so close it’s not funny. If you live only with this animal who acts nearly human for years, you’re lonely, you give it all your love and attention just like you would a child, imagine the attachment you will form. The fact that she stabbed it in an attempt to save her friend breaks my heart, to her it was like stabbing her own child. I know most of you can’t understand that, but those of us who are both animal and children lovers probably can. Add to that mix a lonely widowed woman and it’s just a really sad story overall.

Ummm..ok, so true animal rights people think it is INHUMANE to own a wild animal and let it be treated like this. Why do you think it acted out? I sincerely doubt that PETA supports people owning wild animals, but was more upset over the fact that an innocent animal had to die because of a stupid human owner.
It’s like with dogs-bad owner can =bad dog-and the dog is the one that gets put to death.

I do agree, she should never have had a wild animal to begin with. And I think she should be held accountable for the attack. I’m just saying I don’t think she’s an idiot, I think she should be pitied. I can’t promise if I lost my husband and baby son that I wouldn’t form a deeper attachment to my pets (which are just cats by the way) and go a little nutty.

Jack, I disagree with you. My mom just spent several thousand dollars keeping a 13 year old poodle alive for a few more weeks. It had diabetes and liver issues for years. She could not afford the cost and the animal only suffered for a longer time – along with the pain of tests, treatments, shots, etc.

I’m sick of seeing animals given higher stature than humans. If Vick would have beaten a woman he’d still be in the NFL.

Animals are not human. Having something like a chimp around is not normal and it sounds like this ladies handling of it was unbalanced.

I thoroughly agree with Reagan’s statements. Now all of us are going to have to pay for this tragedy in the form of higher health insurance payments (if the poor mauled lady had any) or it will get added to our national debt if she’s on Medicare, etc.

The bottom line: once again all of us are going to pay for this lady’s stupid behavior.

Meanwhile, I’ve been married to the same lady for 20 years. I am a father to my three kids. I’m going to go play basketball tonight to stay in shape. I pay my bills.

And I get to help bail out the losers who made bad choices & now can’t take care of the consequences.

I am now the oppressed in America. I am the minority. I am the disenfranchised.

And no one listens to those like me. We just keep paying the bills.

And I’ll be praying for the poor lady who was mauled, may God help her and her family during this awful ordeal.

Would Vick still be in the NFL if he tortured his wife, made her fight other women, then electrocuted her to death when she lost??

Get your facts straight you loser. BOO HOO, you work hard and pay bills. So fricken what? Everyone does, teach your kids a lesson and stop crying you baby.

You seem like the type of person that likes to kick the dog when you get home to blow off stress after a hard day fixing copying machines.

Very mature response, Mike. I like the way you keep the conversation at a high level without getting personal.
