Finally a camera paid off. The individuals were fired, which is exactly what should have happened. Too bad it cost $2 million.

It should have cost them a lot more than $2 million. And people actually wonder why NYC and the people there have the reputation they do. I saw the video and it is unbelievable that fellow human beings (I think that’s what they were, but I guess not) would not lend a hand.

GOOD! This is one of those lawsuits that I actually liked. You can’t leave woman dying on the floor and not expect consequences.

While I totally agree the hospital should be penalized for their disregard for human life, I continue to have a problem awarding big money to the families of deceased victims. Our society has a real problem with equating justice with giving away money to families like this. Why should they receive a windfall profit from a tragic death? Nobody relied on this woman for support, and I’d bet the family didn’t even visit her regularly. Trial lawyers have brainwashed the public into thinking they deserve money everytime something bad happens. We all know their liability insurance policy pays the awards so the offending party isn’t penalized at all. We need to re-think when, and how much survivors should be compensated.

What do you think would have happened had no family stepped forward? You really do not think that the county or hospital would just willingly implement changes ie adding 200 ee to payroll? Come on this is not about placing value on a human life this is about penalizing for gross neglect and injustices that would have and do continue for people that do not have a voice . Would you have tolerated a 24 hour wait if your mother, sister or loved one was dying of a heart attack or blood clots in the lungs? No one recieves this treatment other than the mentally ill because they often lack a voice. Tort reform is a joke. This system was problably self insured and so they have been responsible for the consequence they could not afford the insurance as what carrier would provide coverage with all this known risk.

LJ,well written. I am not in favor of most verdicts but most companies/organizations only understand dollars & cents and that’s the only way to get their attention.
