“Energy companies refuse to say what chemicals are used in so-called fracking fluid, saying the mixture is proprietary.”

One has to wonder, given the lack of a response on this point, if the list of chemicals used in fracking might look awfully similar to the chemicals that appeared on those water test results?

Hmm…. I saw a video online recently where a guy can light his tap water on fire due to nearby drilling.

Companies are not required to disclose the composition of the fluid because of an exemption to a federal clean water law granted to the oil and gas industry in 2005.

Before Rosie chimes in, why was this allowed to happen under the Bush administration? Talk about suspicious. I’m not a Bush basher but one has to wonder about this.

I don’t think one has to wonder for long…

I’ll be waiting for the release of Erin Brockovich Two.

ok. how did they qualify for an exemption? sounds to me like they should not have gotten that one. i know the article stated that the chemical they used is not near the surface when used, but sounds to me like there is either a leak in the system, or they just lied how it’s being used. either way, if it does leak, then should be disclosing the chemicals. sounds like this was a very healthy tract of land with a vineyard and tomotoes. um…

I remember a quote from the ’50s which said,”…what’s good for GM is good for America”. So you know the mantra now, from Wall Street to Midlothian, Richmond and James River Coal companies and now onto Atlas….what’s good for business is good for business and damn these people who just get in the way of making a buck quickly. No wonder environmentalists are so shrill…how can a company be so blind to the consequences of their operations? I hope they loose their a$$es in court on this. Holy Crapola!

I’m looking at purchasing a home in Avella, PA. Imagine this, every home around the house I intend to purchase including the home I intend to purchase has issues with Well Water contamination.

Also, I found info on what is in Fracking Fluid.

    SOurce:
    http://www.earthworksaction.org/publications.cfm?pubID=395

Fact: Hydraulic fracturing fluids contain toxic chemicals and are being injected into and near drinking water supplies. According to the EPA, toxic chemicals in fracturing fluids include substances such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; methanol; formaldehyde; ethylene glycol; glycol ethers; hydrochloric acid; sodium hydroxide; and diesel fuel, which contains benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, xylene, naphthalene and other chemicals1. These chemicals have known negative health effects such as respiratory, neurological and reproductive impacts, impacts on the central nervous system, and cancer.

I’m a Bush supporter “not a Chaney supporter”. But the fact that this is done without regulation from the DEP sounds insane to me.
