Evidently Mar is either a racists, or did not even take the time to read the article before forming an opinion on the article. I am with a National MGA and we are members of both of these associations. I quote from the article:
“… the LABA, he said, will be “a place that provides a forum for mentorships for those new to the insurance industry and where carriers can reach this ever growing population of agents and brokers.”
LABA is not the first group geared specifically toward insurance agents with Hispanic clientele.”
It’s not just for Hispanic Agents, but for those who market for or to the needs of Hispanic customers. Many of the members are agency owners of all races and colors, and of course, a large segment of the membership are carriers and MGAs.
As for my personal opinion, I believe that any merging or under-served segment of the population should develop a membership constituency or group to ensure this segment has access to products and services. That is marketing 101. I do not see the “white population” applying to this. However, if Mar thinks he/she has something good to offer “white agents” or which ever community for that matter, an association that represents it’s interest and can help educate and support that community with such support and service, that would be a great move. Especially if it benefits that public, and most of all represents our industry well. (which these associations do very well)
As note, I am white as they come.
And I also know at any point in history, all new immigrants that came to this country were a minority (including “white people) and needed support and education, as did my “white” grandparents when they arrived.
