I have. Remember the neighborHOOD in “Vacation” where they stopped for directions? Only rougher.
Suggestion – issue bazooka’s. Then only one round required.

Let me get this straight …. I am a police officer in “killer city USA” and a motor vehicle is attempting to run me and my fellow officers over and we all react by killing the driver and we are being sued for using excess force? How pray tell does one stop a motor vehicle bearing down on one? “Oh excuse me young man, could you pah – leee -seee not run us over”?

They could use 1000 bullets for all I care. Stop the bad guy! I’m getting so sick of this crap. Don’t mess with the law and you won’t get shot.

Hummmm? Let’s see: over 70 rounds, from six officers. I’d say the range instructor for these cops should be the one facing the lawsuit. Not very good marksmanship, nor efficient use of ammo; a total waste of taxpayer money!

Another bs case to waste tax payers money. Wish we knew why the man was trying to run over all those police men for..Like, maybe he was robbing a bank, or drug running? Can’t believe it was just for speeding…

That’s not a lot. They each have 10-15 rounds in their clip and a car is trying to run over them. I’d empty my gun too…not easy to hit the person inside while moving. It’s not like they reloaded, opened the car door and riddled him with bullets again.

Not sure what Mom expects them to do when he runs over an officer, run alongside his car and yell stop?
Someone again looking for a quick payday.

And his momma says “Taevon was always a good boy!”
Seriously though: the only reason that this lawsuit was filed (besides the easy money, of course) is grounded on the fact that “..over 70 bullets…” were fired by police. If it was only one bullet that killed poor Taevon, who would be just as dead, the lawsuit would not have materalized.

Only in his photos – maybe.

This loser had NOTHING going for him in life. Must take a lot of shooting to bring down someone who’s 5’7″ and 260 pounds.

A review of his arrest record shows possession of handgun; possession of drugs with intent to distribute; assault; attempted to wrestle gun away from an officer; yadda yadda.

And for this skel his mom gets to beg for $30 mil? Wonder how much pops wants (yeah, if he even knows that he had sired this kid or he hasn’t died on the streets yet).

    From various weblogs:
According to the suit, filed last week in U.S. District Court in Baltimore, “The barrage of bullets was so intense that they not only took his life but also destroyed his automobile.” The suit states as Cann was “succumbing from his wounds, one of the defendants reloaded his weapon and shot Mr. Cann in the back of the head.”

The suit describes the sequence of events that led to police using 70 gunshots to stop Cann. According to court documents, Cann went to a BP gas station at Merritt Boulevard and Dunman Way for gas when two men in civilian clothes “rushed toward his car and pointed handguns at him.” The suit explains that Cann, scared for his life, “put his car in reverse to avoid being shot,” and “suddenly without warning, a Baltimore County police vehicle rammed him from behind.”

This is when, according to the lawsuit, police “surrounded his automobile and shot him to death,” despite the fact Cann had his hands in the air.

The lawsuit alleges officers seized $1,784 from Cann’s body after he was pronounced dead at the scene and “refused to return it to his mother or his estate.”

Gwendolyn seeks damages not just for punitive measures, but for mental anguish, emotional pain and suffering and the loss of “protection, attention, advise, counsel and love of her son.”

Hope her lawyer gets her a fair share – I figure about $1 for each of the above.

The number of shots fired is irrelevant. This piece of human garbage was trying to kill police officers with his car, a deadly weapon. The police met force with force. They reacted properly and swiftly. This suit should get tossed. Maybe the local hoods will think twice before they _ _ _ _ with the police. Seems to me people have rights and protections so long as they conduct themselves within the laws of society. Also seems only fair that when you make the choice to defy the laws of society that you forfeit your rights and protections and it’s “game on”. This clown lost.

Now really, are you folks really upset that much about this? These lawsuits virtually never amount to anything. The only reason anyone thinks so, is because when they do, we hear about it on the 24 our news cycle for a week.

I’m not familiar with the entire situation, but if the guy was trying to run down the police, there’s no way this woman gets any money, regardless of the number of shots. It’s like when an inmate sues over not being able to get chunky peanut butter. We hear about it, but the guy doesn’t get anything, and the case gets thrown out well before any trial starts.

It is a little disturbing though, that so many of you react in such a way when you don’t know all the facts, like for instance, did they continue to fire at the suspect after the car had come to a stop? Things like that. I’m not saying the lawsuit is justified (it’s probably not even close), but damn, not everyone that sues is in the wrong.

Mourning has been replaced by currency. You know it’s not about the money, but somehow it sure soothes the feelings….and the pocketbooks.

That sounds good in theory, and it fits with this situation, but what happens when “socity” desides to start taking rights away from its citizens.

Just a hypothetical question for you. Lets say that the government desides to disarm its citizens (like in Japan), but the police and miltary are able to carry guns. If we need to defend ourselves, but have to follow the rule of law, how do we keep our rights?

….for carrying a lame 9mm with no stopping power. Had they been carrying something more along the lines of .45 ACP,they could have accomplished the same end result with say…..40 rounds, thereby saving the dept 30 rounds to use on another worthless piece of street trash that adds no value to society.

These police need to use their heads and start thinking quality over quantity of rounds :)

I understand that perhaps the number of bullets seems high, however; Police are trained to eliminate a threat, from what I can tell the suspect rammed them with his vehicle thus he was attempting to harm or kill them. There wasn’t anything else they could have done.

My question is this: EVEN if she does win all this money, there is no way to bring back her son. He Is DEAD. I remember a time when mourning was a private thing, families did it together and healed. Isn’t suing someone just like ripping off a large scab?

I don’t understand people like this, and I don’t understand how all the money in the world could ease or take the pain away from losing a child.

If the suspect really did try to ram the police. Then he got what he deserved but from information in the Baltimore newspaper. The video disputes the police version.
