This is obscene! And this is the “compromise?” I’d love for this not to pass because most small businesses will be put out of business. O, Cuomo, by Your Esteemed Grace, thankfully you’ve allowed the carve-out. Even 4 years is too soon to commit to this hike. There’s a standard of value based on work performed, which naturally increases over the years, and merit adds to that.

“Wealthy counties” – is there really such a thing? Perhaps “expensive counties.” An insurance agent in Brooklyn has the same client base as in the upstate and outlying counties but much larger expenses, so why would I want to pay a receptionist a starting salary of $15 an hour in addition to my higher rent and tax bracket?

A mere 16 years ago I was being paid $7 to do so much more than what I’m getting out of my assistant whose pay is more than double (she’s been here a while). The cost of living has not DOUBLED in this time. If I can’t afford help, I might as well close my business!

GoldC, I take it you are not a big Cuomo fan. He is cut from the same cloth as his old man. NY and NYC are in a different world than the rest of the nation. No wonder people have been leaving the state for greener pastures. The pastures are much greener in the southern part of the country.

For a small business in NYC, they could be facing a salary expense increase of 67% over the 3 years. Almost all businesses will have to jack up their prices for goods or services in order to compensate for the minimum wage increase.
Who does this help? I guess if you make less than $15/hour, it sort of helps as you get a pay increase to help offset the cost of goods and services increasing. If you already make more than $15/hour, you just get hurt by the increase in price of goods and services.
    Nice job NY!

Good bye restaurant workers and any other business using minimum wage employees. Thank you Cuomo for running more business off to other states. Let the Exodus begin.

I think the other group this affects are city and state government workers. They will all get increases to $15 per hour. This means a tax increase to everyone in NY to pay for this wage increase.

It’s beginning to sound a lot like the democrats are coming over to Bernie Sanders and his socialism reform.

How about that Bernie winning the recent primaries which is an anti Hillary vote rather than a pro Bernie vote? Jack, he wants to raise taxes to 90% to pay for all the free stuff he proposes. How stupid would it be to put someone like him in office?

          Agent,

The only things more stupid than a 90% tax is the fact that people believe:
          1. That is what he has proposed
          2. That the President can change unilaterally change tax laws

Please go read the Constitution and take a civics 101 class.

Take a hike Ron. Your Progressive views are well known and it seems you are having problems completing a coherent post now. Have you switched allegiances to Bernie now since you are now defending him and his Socialist/Communist views. I think we call that looking at things through rose colored glasses like you have been doing with Obama for 7+ years. Bernie actually makes Obama look Conservative.

            Agent,

            No, thank you.

First of all, as I have stated in previous posts, I am supporting John Kasich. He is the only candidate that can beat Hillary Clinton, period. If you support anyone else, you are for Hillary becoming the next president.

Second, correcting your false information does not equate to defending a person.

Third, Do you have proof that he has proposed a 90% tax on everyone and all income?

Forth, where in the Constitution does it state that the President determines tax laws?

I know you will not answer my questions because you would have to admit that you were wrong.

I still think if raising the minimum wage is so great for the economy as advocates say, why not really raise it for all? Make the minimum wage 10% above the poverty level or, better yet equal to the average wage in the state. Wow, the economy would really be hopping.

Certainly it will because there won’t be any small businesses to keep the hoppin’ going?

For those dem bozos out there, why don’t you drink this flavor: Hillary who was against a nationwide increase to $15 minimum wage stood beside Cuomo and praised what a great move it is. Yup, good for the geese. The gander? Who cares?

Hilliary doesn’t have a non-political bone in her body. She is being pressed in NY by Socialist Bernie and realizes she could lose NY without the Democratic machine behind her.

When I was a teenager I worked after school and summers at low wage jobs that would never have supported an adult trying to live on their own- much less support a family. These jobs were valuable to me. I learned the importance of showing up on time, being willing to work, having a positive attitude, getting along with older people and listening to adults dealing with adult situations. This was part of growing up. It is not just businesses that are the losers here.

      Gee Wally, that’s swell.

Please don’t slug me one, but I wanna add that I think it’s on account of doin’ a good job in front of the grownups, that, I don’t know, kinda makes you feel good about yourself. Builds self confidence; like you read about in magazines. You know, it’s supposed to make us better people and all that kind of junk.

Beav, nothing wrong with building a strong work ethic at a young age, then getting an education that will lead to being a success in life. Some kids are just lazy and have no desire to work hard and improve themselves so they like the free stuff and sitting on their butts and downloading apps on their free phones.

After reading Wally’s comment, I think they should have a 2 tiered minimum wage. If there still are newspaper delivery kids, should they get $15/hour? If I want to help out some local 16 year old kids and hire them for summer work, like filing or simple data entry work, we could afford to do this at $15/hour. Perhaps an age bias minimum wage would work.

Mickey, why would Ron, Confused & Planet’s employer ever pay them more than $15 per hour. After all, they are robbing their employer by blogging on every article on this forum with nasty insults. If it were me employing them, they would have had a cardboard box and shown the door.
