Didn’t the building have sprinklers? This should be mandatory for senior living facilities where people may not be able to escape on their own.

According to local news reports it did have sprinklers, and if they were installed and working as they should the fire should not have spread as rapidly as it did.

I live 3 or 4 miles from the site but have no personal involvement with the institution or the recovery and have not personally seen the ruins except on TV.

Lousy construction + seniors with mobility problems = terrible tragedy.

I’m also from West Chester, a few miles from the fire.

As sad as the situation was and is, it could have been so much worse. you should’ve seen the way the community responded. Dozens of strangers immediately helped evacuate people. There were a couple of college students that took an Uber to the home to check on the one student’s grandfather. Once they found him safe, the students spent the rest of the night helping any way they could. A local fire station had a donation drop-off and ended up having to tell people that they couldn’t accept any more donations since they were overwhelmed with how many they received.
