Whenever you have a driver who can’t see or comprehend signs, that is a recipe for disaster.
Saw another story on a bus driver taking passengers to the Masters Golf Tournament. He got off on the shoulder, over corrected and then flipped the bus injuring 18, some seriously. By the way, he was DUI. I think they will easily pass their liability limits on that claim. No vetting, no checking record? My guess is that if he was driving DUI, he probably had other violations for the same thing.
The parkways in the Northeast, on which I have traveled when in NY/CT/MA, are clearly marked with warnings; i.e. max height. Despite that, some (impaired?) drivers with commercial / tall vehicles enter those parkways and run into the overpasses.
What is needed to avoid such accidents is a flexible ‘arch’ over ALL parkway entrances, set at the lowest height of all overpasses. Any vehicle that exceeds the lowest height will hit the flexible, spring-mounted overhead bar and activate visual and audible alarms to inform the driver to stop and immediately exit the parkway.

that’s actually a pretty good idea…
You must realize that I’m smarter than the average polar bear.
