Tens of millions of dollars in ransom and “more costly routes” for ship owners. Let’s see…that on top of increased premiums for insurance. Put the contract security people on board (regardless if there’s permission), pay them well and with orders to eliminate anyone who attempts to board the ship, a signal will have been sent to the scum who want to play pirate. Pay the fine for having firepower on board to anyone who wants to fine the owner, and still, a profit will be made. This as opposed to the insanity that’s going on now.

Let’s see, if I am shot by trained security personnel, while attempting an act of piracy, the probability of reoccurrence is extremely low. If EVERY SINGLE ship had a handful of these security staff on board, the pirates would soon discover they are out of business. Gosh, this just makes too much sense, so let’s not do it. I’m a firm believer that the shipping companies could go to Texas, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, etc., and hire volunteers to provide security. You wouldn’t even need to pay these sharp-shooters if you guaranteed them a few days of action per month against the pirates.

Couldn’t agree more. By paying ransoms, you keep the profit motive in play and the problem will continue. All it would take is 2 well-trained and well paid mercenaries to patrol the decks and engage anyone who approaches the ship. In the alternative, convoys of ships with a security team that can respond to any ship in the convoy would work. Sooner or later, these 3rd world punks will be eliminated, or realize the game is over. Taking it a step further, I’d support putting a ransom on pirates. There has to be someone out their with prior military experience who can muster a team to hunt these vermin down and eliminate them. I find it both disappointing and pathetic that the civilized world continues to allow it’s chain to get jerked by these hoodlums.

Just send in that Russian Team that went in last week and freed the Chinese ship. They killed the 10 pirates and put the bodies back on their pirate ship and sent them on their way. They say they must have died on their way bac to shore.
    That’s a deterrant!

Not all news is bad. Sometimes there is a feel good story.
