    Good day

How can we the public help to push compulsory insurance policy through government, I am sick of paying high insurance premiums and for never getting the claim amount back from others after a accident because they are uninsured?

I am South African and immigrated to the UK 13yrs ago. Every single vehicle in the UK is insured. It is against the law to drive without insurance and if you get caught, your car gets impounded and they give you two weeks to recover the vehicle after you’ve paid a hefty fine.

If you can’t afford to pay the fine within the two week period, your car gets thrown into a huge shredder that tears the car into little shreds. They don’t give a shit what car it is, you break the law, they break your car. Simple.

To make matters worse, they spread this propaganda on TV in a show called ”Police Interceptors” a BBC camera crew follows the cops and basically makes a show out of the day to day living of the police. It not only increases respect for the police but you also get a feel for the law here.

This not only boosts the condition of 2nd hand cars in general but it also improves psychology when buying a car 2nd hand car. Last but not least, insurance companies only insure vehicles up to 20yrs. After that, you have to apply for special insurance which has to do with certain emissions certifications etc..

It will serve South Africa well to learn from the UK in this regard.
