The ABI could do well in reminding the British Government of the independent 1983 Industry reports which already outlined the necessary steps to adopt for U.K. Coastal and Inner Flooding.

Clear investments were recommended then and could have already have avoided in some respects, some of the flooding seen over the last decade. ABI then did not lobby the Authorities with enough convictions to enable works to start at that time and subsequent years. A shame that the whole of the UK Market, Insurers and Clients have as a result suffered for years, flood rates having had to go up to sustain in parts unwarranted losses which could have been averted over the course of the end 80’s to 2010!!!!.

Will we ever learn. Since the two 1983/1984 Reports, further Flood status have been issued reported upon, with not enough investments supporting these over the 30 last years. Yet, we just blame the “unusual” Climate Changes and Weather. Now as always remedies after the events. Time for politicians to work more closely with our Insurance industry and put an end to this untenable status.

Also time for the Insurance industry on behalf of their Governing Body and especially the Policyholders Consumers to hold the Government more responsible and active in resolving the whole flood question.
